How exciting is the discovery of the Diamond Planet (aka 55 Cancri e)!?!?! A planet made of diamonds!!!! That’s like heaven for Elizabeth Taylor! The clever kids over at Forbes have calculated it to be worth $26.9 nonillion, which makes me feel infinitely richer since it’s in my zodiac sign.
But all of this hullabaloo about it really just goes to show what a science fashion forecasting is. Somehow they were able to predict an renewed interest in space and so fall has some amazing futuristic fashions, perfect for intergalactic events. To me, this design movement feels like a natural (and much needed) progression of the minimalist trend. The lines are still very clean and sharp, but the shapes are more expansive.
As always in galactic things, there’s a struggle between light and dark. The light side of space style is full of wintry whites, icy blues, silvery greys and pops of midnight blue. Winter whites deserve their own post, but in general they’re off whites and you can layer them with each other. If that feels a little stark for you, try them with greige, mushroom or taupe.
The dark energy is fiercely sophisticated. It’s slightly angular, a little gritty but chic, chic, chic! If you already own a black leather jacket, try wearing it with a wide silver belt and slim pants for the futuristic look.
